To remove lichens from solar panels, most solar panel cleaners use weed killers or aggressive chemical products that are absolutely not suitable for solar panels. Some even use dangerous glass scrapers or even high-pressure cleaners...

By using glass scrapers you scratch and damage the delicate surface of the solar panels (AR coating and glass plate). Using a high-pressure cleaner can also damage the seal.

What is LRA?

Lichen Removal Agent (LRA) is a lichen, moss and mold remover that has been specially developed for use on solar panels. It is a biodegradable product designed to be as delicate as possible with the solar module components (ARC, silicone and aluminum frame). The product helps break the bond between the lichen and the solar glass, making them easier to remove. To prevent the problem from recurring, you should act preventively and protect the modules with a coating such as Antistatic Solar Armor (ASA).

How much do you need?

Dilution specifications: 1L product to 10 liters of water
5L LRA is good for cleaning up to 150m²

Cleaning instructions

1. Mix LRA with water according to the specified mixing ratio.

2. Spray the diluted product onto the problem areas, making sure the entire surface is well covered. Use a hand spray pump or electric sprayer (e.g. Samourai sprayer 30L), or a dosatron dilution pump if you have your own osmosis system. (Contact us for more information)

3. Allow the product to work for at least +/- 20 minutes.

4. Clean with a hard brush (Gardiner Xtreme). Repeat steps 2, 3 and 4 until all lichens have been removed. We always recommend working with heated osmosis, as this offers a faster and better effect!

5. Rinse THOROUGHLY with osmosis so that no residue remains.

Recommended additional step:

6. Apply a coating immediately after cleaning to protect the modules. This will seal the glass and any future lichen growth will not be as strongly attached to it, making them easier to remove.
